Drip Acclimation
|
Drip acclimation is the easiest and best way to acclimate
sensitive organisms. Before acclimation make sure to turn off the lights in your aquarium. Here is a very controlled method and requires very
little attention.
Instructions:
1. Place the end with a suction cup in the tank and stick
it near the top.
2. Place the bag of your animal in a large cup, mug or bucket.
3. Start a siphon by getting water into the airline.
4. Adjust the flow rate on the valve to your liking (1 drop every 2 seconds
is good).
5. Place the valve in the bag.
6. When the container is full you can repeat or place the animal in your
tank. It's important to turn the lights off for the rest of the day after
the animal has been placed into the tank.
We acclimate our corals from 10 minutes to one hour depending
on the sensitivity of the animal. In most cases a 10 minute acclimation
for most corals is good enough. It's good to acclimate the coral to its new home but it's also important to get the coral out of the shipping water ASAP.
Sensitive inverts should be acclimated for at least one hour. Don't forget
to put the invert back in the bag and temperature acclimate after the
drip acclimation. Don't forget to turn off the lights for the rest of the day during acclimation to reduce shock.
Macros and hardy corals can be placed in directly into the tank after
matching temperature.
